July 2014 Engineering Redefined

The heart of the Orem Campus of Utah Valley University now houses a Student Life Center, with a host of student-oriented educational and wellness resources including gymnasiums, indoor climbing walls, bowling lanes, student government chambers, offices, a commercial demonstration kitchen, a café, and washing machine and equipment storage rooms for the outdoor recreation program.

Mechanical systems include three-stage evaporatively cooled air handlers with VAV reheat.  The system also includes a re-design of the campus-wide heating and chilled water piping systems to increase the net carrying capacity of the existing system. The new Student Life Center building connects to two existing buildings, which required modifications to the existing HVAC systems in both existing buildings.

The project also includes a 6 level parking garage.  The garage is open and is naturally ventilated, but requires a fire sprinkler system and water curtains for opening protection along the east side of the garage.
